When winter starts to creep in, lots of us haul our favorite potted plants inside so they don’t succumb to the cold. But be careful! Those plants could be bringing some unexpected guests on their leaves or in the soil.

White Light

Have you noticed how moths, crane flies and other insects at night flock to bright white light? So, what exactly is white light, you may ask? In layman’s terms, it is the color of those traditional light bulbs we usually use!

Quick Fix: Change your white bulbs for yellow bulbs. Insects don’t see yellow as we do, so they’ll just float right over your outdoor areas without creeping indoors.

Paper Bags

Following a recent ban on plastic bags in Australia, most shops are now providing paper bags as an alternative. These bags are wonderful for the environment but the fact that we store them can be slightly risky. Because we want to reuse them, we may be stashing them away in cupboards or under sinks, which can be a cozy roach hideout.

TIP: Store your paper bags in a sealable container so pesky pests don’t get to them!
